Watercolour, Charcoal & Life Drawing in Prague

Drawing Classes Built for Adults

We're not interested in teaching you like you're in a school anymore. saxlingham.org s.r.o. began because we noticed a gap — lots of adults wanted to paint or draw, but couldn't find classes that respected their time, their questions, and their individual pace. So we built something different. No judgment. No "you're holding the pencil wrong" lectures. Just good instruction and genuine encouragement. We've been running beginner watercolour workshops and charcoal sketching classes in the Czech Republic since we started, and every session brings people who are genuinely excited to be there.

What We Teach

Each class focuses on building real skills. You're not learning abstract theory — you're learning techniques you'll actually use the next time you sit down with materials.

Beginner Watercolour Workshops

Starting with brush control and colour mixing, moving into landscape and botanical subjects. We work wet-on-wet, glazing, and dry brush techniques. Most people find their style emerges naturally after a few sessions.

Charcoal Sketching Classes

Charcoal's forgiving and expressive. We cover mark-making, shading, tonal ranges, and how to build a drawing from basic shapes. It's honest work — you'll see improvement session to session.

Acrylic Painting Technique Sessions

Acrylics dry fast and layer beautifully. We explore colour theory, composition, texture, and how acrylics behave differently than watercolour. Perfect if you want flexibility in your work.

Life Drawing Evening Meetups

Drawing from a live model teaches proportion, movement, and anatomy in ways reference photos can't. These sessions are relaxed and social — you're drawing alongside others at your level.

Why This Matters

1

You Learn at Your Pace

There's no rushing. If you need to spend three weeks on brush technique, that's fine. Everyone in class is here to develop skills, not race through material.

2

Small Groups Matter

We keep classes intentionally small so instructors can give feedback to each person. You're not just in a room with 30 other people — you're actually getting guidance.

3

Materials Aren't a Barrier

Don't own supplies yet? We provide everything for beginner sessions. Once you know what you like, you can invest in your own. We're here to remove obstacles, not create them.

What People Tell Us

We've worked with hundreds of adults learning to paint and draw. Here's what actually happens when you show up consistently.

"I hadn't drawn anything since secondary school. Thought I'd lost the ability entirely. But after six weeks in the charcoal class, I'm actually producing work I'm proud of. The instructors don't make you feel bad if you're starting from zero — they just help you build from where you are."

— Martin, 58

"The watercolour workshop is brilliant because it's social and productive at the same time. You're working on your own piece, but there's this community feeling. People chat, share tips, help each other troubleshoot. It doesn't feel clinical or stressful."

— Petra, 52

"I came to life drawing because I wanted to challenge myself. The live model sessions are intimidating at first, but honestly the instructors manage the room so well that you forget to be nervous. You're just focused on seeing proportions and drawing what's in front of you."

— Viktor, 65

About Our Teaching

Our courses are designed to teach fundamental drawing and painting techniques in a supportive environment. Individual learning outcomes depend on your dedication, prior experience, and consistent practice outside of class. The results shared from students represent their personal experiences and may vary based on many factors. We focus on building genuine skills and confidence, not guaranteeing specific artistic outcomes. Everyone develops at their own pace — that's part of the process.
